Podcast 3: Domonique Davies on Dom Phillips

1 April 2023, Gavin O'Toole

In June 2022 the British journalist Dom Phillips was murdered alongside the Brazilian indigenous expert Bruno Pereira while they were journeying through the Amazon.

Their killings sparked international outrage and highlighted the historic assault on indigenous communities and the environment in Brazil.

An exhibition “For Dom, Bruno and the Amazon” which looks at the work of both men, the impact of climate change and illegal mining on the Amazon, and at other defenders of the region who have been killed for their action, has been touring the UK.

The Latin American Review of Books recently caught up with Dom’s niece, Domonique Davies, who helped put the exhibition together, at an event where it was on display.

We asked her about Dom’s work and the book he was writing when he was killed, “How to Save the Amazon”, that will now be completed in his memory.
