I have a lot of faith in Chile. It will be a tough time, yes, because of Kast, but he has no answers. None of these nutty trump-puppets do. Trump himself is flailing. The unified left is in Chile is strong, they just need to convince the disaffected that it can make a difference
We wish you both luck Lorissa, the author of this book also moved to Chile and has made a great life there. Hopefully, there is sufficient progressive resistance to keep the country on an even keel.
Thanks! My husband was born in Santiago in the late 60’s so lived through the Pinochet years..he’s definitely traumatized..and we decided to move to Chile (Valparaiso area), about 6 months ago from the US, to escape the Fascist madness in the states, only to hear these election results. Honestly, I just don’t understand how Chileans could vote for a Nazi Pinochet backer…don’t they remember the torturing & killing !!!???? Boggles my mind..To move from Trumpland to another Trumpland basically makes me sick!!
Seek out the good people, surround yourselves with progressive voices, it will be fine. The left everywhere still looks to Chile as something of a beacon, and you can be part of that. I regret that your husband is traumatized. I hope you can make your move work, for his sake. Trump's influence is toxic, but it cannot last very long. Latin America is making its own way more than ever before, free from the maw of the beast. Good luck!
Great article. Difficult times ahead for Chile. And thanks for alerting us all to Scott-Stokes' book!

Thanks for your comment Geoff: you speak good sense.
I’m moving to Chile with my husband in two weeks..this is quite distressing..
